多くのハワイアンファブリックのプリントには顔料が使われています。
顔料とは、水や油脂などに溶けない色素が細かい粉末状になったもので、表面に塗布する着色料としてハワイアンファブリックのプリントに広く利用されています。
染料に比べてひとつひとつの粒子が大きい為、摩擦に弱く、また、熱にも弱いという弱点があります。 洗濯や折りによりプリント部分が落ちてしまったり薄くなったりすることも。
