What is Step-Up Rings?
Step up rings, also known as adapter rings, allow you to use filters and accessories that are not the same size as your camera lens. Lenses and filters come in a variety of sizes and unfortunately, they may not always fit correctly. Fortunately, there is a step-up or step-down filter for almost every need.
HOW STEP-UP RING WORKS
The step-up ring allows you to attach larger diameter filters and accessories to smaller lenses. The step up ring is screwed into the lens thread and has a larger thread so you can attach other elements including more step up rings.
HOW STEP-DOWN RING WORKS
The step-down ring works exactly the same, but instead gives you a way to attach a small accessory or filter to a larger lens.
It is important to note that the more you leave the filter away from the lens, the worsened optics will be. It is always best to find the thinnest adapter ring available to get the filter close to the lens.
