Argenteuil, a town located on the river Seine, about 10 km from Paris.
The mother and child down the hill of Argentouille with a beard bloom is said to be modeled after Monets wife Camille and son Jean.

The original painting was created in 1873 and was released in the first impressionist exhibition along with the "Impression Sunrise," which originated from the name of the impressionism.
It is currently located in the Museum of Paris Orsay.
