1966年にポルトガルで誕生したコンフォートシューズブランド「アルコペディコ」。
ポルトガルは古くから坂道が多く、道路は固い石畳になっているなど足への負担が大きく人々を悩ませていました。
そこで、足への負担を軽減し「歩きやすく、疲れにくい」ことを追求して開発されたのが「アルコペディコ」のシューズです。

考案したのは人間工学·解剖学の権威であるエリオ·パロディ氏。
彼はコンフォートシューズに必要な要素と市場で販売されている靴との矛盾点に疑問を抱き、足裏にかかる圧力を分散する構造を考えました。
歩き出す際はかかと部分の厚いアウトソールが地面接地時の衝撃を吸収し、次にツインアーチサポートシステムや返りの良いアウトソールがスムーズな足裏の体重移行を促進。
つま先部分は丸みを帯びたローリングデザインで転倒しにくく、足を前へ蹴り出しやすいつくり。
こうして、人間工学の基本に忠実な構造で「立つ、歩く」を自然にサポートするシューズが生まれました。
「アルコペディコ」というブランド名はポルトガル語で「足のアーチ」という意味を持っています。
